Over the past fifty years, Carnegie Mellon University has been at the forefront of innovation in the sciences, technology, and an emerging information society. However, in continually looking forward, we are at risk of losing the records of past accomplishments and fully grasping CMU’s influence on the modern, technological world. The History of Science and Technology at CMU — HOST@CMU — is a cross-campus, interdisciplinary initiative aimed at uncovering, clarifying, and celebrating CMU’s unique historical contributions to scientific and technical development. In locating, preserving, and analyzing CMU’s historical records, from lab notes and gray literature to source code, HOST@CMU works to ensure that CMU’s history remains alive and accessible into the future.
